ADHD Assessments

Take the First Step in Understanding Your ADHD Symptoms

Our HSE-Recognised ADHD assessment helps you to identify critical symptoms and get the support you need.
What is ADHD?

ADHD, Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, and ADD (which involves less hyperactivity), are conditions that affect how someone focuses, controls impulses, and manages tasks. While everyone can sometimes get distracted or forget things, people with ADHD experience these issues more often, causing significant impact on their daily lives.

It’s important to understand that ADHD isn’t just about being forgetful or energetic once in a while. For those with ADHD, difficulties with focus, staying in control of actions and staying organised, are a regular part of life. These challenges can make things like school, work and relationships harder to manage.

If you‘re wondering whether you might have ADHD, key questions are:
How often do you struggle with these symptoms?
How much does it affect your wellbeing?
How disruptive is it to your daily life?

If you feel like the symptoms of ADHD are getting in the way of what’s important, then it’s worth seeking advice from a professional.

Types of ADHD

ADHD comes in three main types, each based on different patterns of symptoms:

Inattentive ADHD (ADD)

People with this type of ADHD mainly struggle with focus and attention, but don’t show significant hyperactivity.

Common Traits:
– Easily distracted, often daydreaming.
– Difficulty following instructions or staying on task.
– Tends to procrastinate, leading to last-minute stress.
– Often restarts tasks or leaves them unfinished.
– Challenges with time management and organisation.

Hyperactive-Impulsive ADHD

This type is marked by impulsivity and hyperactivity, while issues with attention are less of a concern.

Common Traits:
– Physical restlessness, fidgeting or trouble sitting still.
– Mentally jumping between extreme disinterest and intense focus.
– Acting on impulse, such as making quick decisions or interrupting others.

Combined ADHD

Common Traits:

– Difficulty staying focused during conversations or tasks, even when trying to concentrate.
– Fidgeting, difficulty sitting still.
– Interrupting others or acting without thinking things through.
– Trouble starting or completing tasks, often due to distractions or losing interest quickly.
– Difficulty managing time and staying organised.

Each type can present unique strengths and challenges, and recognising the differences helps in finding the right support.

Why Seek an Adult ADHD Assessment?

An ADHD assessment goes beyond simply diagnosing a condition—it’s about turning your challenges into strengths and enhancing your life in meaningful ways. It opens doors to resources and supports that help you live life in a way that fits you.

Here’s how an assessment can help:

  • Clarity: Understanding that your challenges with focus, organisation, or impulsivity have a name can bring significant relief, understanding, validation, and self-compassion.
  • Tailored Support: A diagnosis allows you to access tailored treatment options, including psychotherapy, medication and coaching, specifically designed to manage ADHD symptoms.
  • Improved Relationships: ADHD can impact personal and professional relationships. A diagnosis can help you understand the effects of ADHD on communication and behaviour, leading to better relationships.
  • Workplace and Educational Accommodations: With a diagnosis, you can access accommodations like flexible deadlines, structured work environments, or additional time on tasks, which can help you perform at your best potential.
  • Enhanced Self-Esteem and Confidence: Knowing the root of your difficulties can boost your self-esteem, reduce self-criticism and increase your confidence as you learn strategies to work with, rather than against, your ADHD.

How does our ADHD Assessment Process Work?

Our Assessments are complaint with NICE – The National Institute for Health and Care Excellence, and are HSE-Recognised.

The assessment process includes two main steps, with an optional third step for those who require additional documentation for medical support:

1. Initial Pre-Screening Consultation (€80): This session helps us to identify whether a full ADHD assessment is necessary based on your symptoms.

2. Comprehensive Clinical Assessment (€550): In this session, you will undergo clinical interviews, standardised rating scales, and a review of personal history with your assessment psychologist. At the end of the session, you will receive a formal diagnosis, a booklet of tailored recommendations and your support options. Your assessment psychologist can also provide free support letters for work, school or college.

Optional Step:

3. HSE-Recognised ADHD Report (€150): If needed, you can book in to receive a detailed 30-page report, which is necessary for accessing further psychiatric or medical care, either publicly or privately. Your assessment psychologist can also assist in referring you to specialised ADHD psychiatric services.
