Counselling Experience and Areas of Interest

Michaela has worked with a wide range of issues including anxiety management, panic attacks, depression, relationship issues, grief, disability, low self-esteem and more.

She has extensive experience supporting LGBTQIA+ clients and passionate about creating inclusive mental health spaces. As a queer therapist, she believes that identity, belonging, relationships and the experience of being authentic in Ireland bring their own complexities. She strives to make sure clients feel seen and welcome wherever they are at and whoever they are. She continues to advocate for marginalised people to access mental health support. She helps clients navigate stressors and encourages them to take up space in their own lives.

Michaela also has significant experience working with people who have experienced sexual violence and abuse. She is currently undertaking additional specialist training with the Galway Rape Crisis Centre to specialise in this area, further developing her knowledge and skills in this area. She takes a trauma-informed approach, recognising that everyone responds to experiences differently and that there is no right way to heal.

Counselling and Psychotherapeutic Approach

Michaela works primarily from a person–centred, client-led approach, creating a space for exploration and self-discovery. She integrates practical tools and reflective practices to extend therapy beyond the session. Drawing on various approaches, she designs sessions to meet the unique needs of each client. Support, collaboration and respect are central to her work.

“Few places allow us to be our authentic and full selves. Therapy is one of them. A place to be seen, heard and to gain a fresh perspective, potentially allowing growth and change.”

Psychotherapy Training and Accreditation

Michaela holds an MSc in Integrative Psychotherapy from Dublin City University and has a background in psychology. Her intensive training included multiple modalities such as humanistic, psychodynamic and cognitive–behavioural approaches.

She is fully accredited with the Irish Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (IACP) and continues to engage in professional development to ensure her practice remains responsive and adheres to the IACP code of ethics.
