Psychotherapy Training and Accreditation

Maria holds a MA in Supervisory Practice from Milltown Institute Dublin (2010). She has a Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy from Tivoli Institute (1999). Diploma in Bereavement and Loss from Turning Point Institute (1997) Certified in Gestalt Therapy, Certified in Addictions – chemical and process, Certified in Marriage and Relationship Counselling (MRCS) Child and Adolescent Development (RCSI) Mindfulness Practice (Oscailt Integrative Health Centre) Further studies in working therapeutically with clients with a psychiatric diagnosis and depression and special interest in trauma dissociation and somatisation, childhood sex abuse, sex gender identity and diversity.

Maria participates in ongoing Continued Professional Development (CPD) and Supervision. She is accredited with the Irish Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (IACP) and the Addiction Counsellors of Ireland (ACI)

Counselling and Psychotherapeutic Approach

Maria has gained experience in a wide range of human struggles affecting individuals personally and professionally. Maria’s background is in Nursing with vast experience in dealing with illness and disability. Her therapeutic approach in counselling and Psychotherapy is Humanistic Person Centred incorporating CBT as well applying other therapeutic modalities such as Solution Focused and Reality Therapy. Maria believes that counselling is about empowerment and changing one’s way of looking at the world  and seeing oneself develop sovereignty from within through self awareness and change; changing the unexplored beliefs, attitudes, behaviours and habits that are self limiting.

Counselling Experience and Areas of Interest

Maria has worked as a therapist in Private Practice since 1999 with individuals, couples and adolescence and in Supervision with supervisees’ since 2004. Maria supports the fundamental principle that we are all equipped with the inner resources and ability to heal and to make changes that enhance life and make meaning of one’s own predicament and live more resourcefully. Maria engages with clients who struggle with: Anxiety, Abuse, Addictions-chemical and process, Anger, Bereavement and Loss, Crisis, Compulsivity, Conflict, Depression, Disability, Disordered Eating, Illness, Life Change, Trauma and Shock, Sexuality, Relationships and unresolved overwhelming emotions from childhood.

Maria’s fees are €75 for an individual, €85 for a couple and €80 for Supervision.
