Psychotherapy Training and Accreditation

Kevin holds a BSc.(Hons) from UCD and an MSc. in Counselling Psychology from Trinity College Dublin. He is a fully accredited member of  the Irish Association of Counselling & Psychotherapy (MIACP). He has been working as a qualified Counselling Psychologist since 1999.

Kevin is committed to his own professional learning and development and he has received further training in many areas. They include training in forensic and psychological assessment, group therapy, mindfulness practice, brief solution focused therapy, personality issues and trauma informed therapies including Polyvagal theory and Internal Family Systems. He is very interested in the latest developments in neuroscience and neurodiversity and in how they can best inform his practice.

Kevin is also committed to his own self care and his own personal development. For a number of years he has practised an embodiment and mindfulness meditation through breath and movement. He also attends his own personal therapy and individual supervision to ensure a good, ethical and professional therapeutic service.

Counselling and Psychotherapeutic Approach

Kevin’s approach is based upon a safe, respectful and collaborative therapeutic relationship. He supports each person to be who they are and to explore their difficult issues at their own pace. He draws upon a number of therapeutic approaches including Trauama informed & Body oriented therapies, Mindfulness based cognitive behavioural therapy, Humanistic/Existential therapy and Psychodynamic therapy to match the specific needs of each person. He engages in both short-term and long-term therapeutic work and reviews the sessions with each person on an ongoing basis.

Counselling Experience and Areas of Interest

For over 20 years Kevin has provided psychological assessment, individual and group psychological therapy in a number of settings. They include the HSE Adult Mental Health Services, 3rd Level Student Counselling Services, Irish Prison Psychology Service and in Mind & Body Works Therapy Centre. Both in past work settings and currently in Mind & Body Works Kevin works therapeutically with adults experiencing a wide range of mild to severe and complex mental health challenges and difficulties.

Some of those difficulties include depression, anxiety including panic attacks, sexual addiction, sexual violence, anger, relationship difficulties, living with long term illness, bereavement, personality difficulties, trauma and trauma related difficulties. He also has experience in providing forensic assessment and offence focused psychological therapy.

Kevin also has interest and experience in providing group work. Since 2016 he has worked with ARC Cancer Services to provide and facilitate a Psychoeducational Support group for men living with Prostate Cancer.

In the past he has facilitated and developed both short and long term therapy programmes in the prison service. He has written and delivered cognitive behavioural group programmes for depression in community mental health services and has facilitated Mindfulness based CBT anxiety management workshops both in a community and in a prison setting. He also facilitated DCU Student Empowerment-Personal Effectiveness programme over a 3 year period. He has taught on the BSc. Behavioural Science in the American College, on the Diploma in Psychology in the National University of Ireland Maynooth and tutored on the BA Humanities in St. Patrick’s College, Drumcondra.
