Counselling Experience and Areas of Interest

John works with adults who feel stuck, whether that shows up as anxiety, low mood, stress, relationship difficulties, loss, or a persistent sense that something is not quite right. Many seem to cope well outwardly but feel exhausted or unsettled beneath the surface. They want to understand the reasons behind these feelings, not simply manage them.

He has a particular interest in supporting people who grew up around addiction and those affected by a harsh, persistent inner critic. He also works with issues of identity, shame, and meaning.

His clinical experience includes supporting adult survivors of abuse and trauma at One in Four and ICAP, working with whistleblowers through Transparency International Ireland, and working on an acute psychiatric ward.

Counselling and Psychotherapeutic Approach

People often seek therapy because something keeps recurring: familiar arguments, feelings of inadequacy, or cycles of unhealthy or risky behaviour. John explores how early experiences, family dynamics, and unconscious patterns shape the present, helping these patterns gradually loosen.

When appropriate, John uses dreams, imagery, and body awareness to support insight, emotional regulation, and a renewed sense of meaning. Sessions offer a steady, unhurried space to explore what is happening at a manageable pace. Some people arrive without a clear direction; others bring experiences that are difficult to express. Both are valid starting points.

Psychotherapy Training and Accreditation

John is accredited by the Irish Association of Humanistic and Integrative Psychotherapy (IAHIP) and registered with the Irish Council for Psychotherapy (ICP). He holds an MA in Transpersonal Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy from the Centre for Counselling and Psychotherapy Education (CCPE) in London. His research examined Irish drinking culture and the experiences of people who grow up around addiction.

His integrative practice combines humanistic, psychodynamic, existential, and transpersonal approaches.
