Psychotherapy Training and Accreditation

Gillian has years of valuable experience as a qualified psychotherapist, having trained at the Institute of Counselling and Psychotherapy (IICP) in Dublin. She holds a Higher Diploma in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy, and a Postgraduate Qualification in Rational Emotive Behavioural Therapy (REBT), which is a specific form of CBT.

Gillian is currently studying for an MA in Pluralistic Counselling and Psychotherapy and is committed to continuous professional development. She has completed workshops in various aspects of the therapeutic field, including Invisible Addictions, Spirituality in Psychotherapy, and CBT for Weight Loss. She has also completed training in Emotional Regulation Skills, particularly in relation to overcoming addiction. She is currently a teaching assistant in the Irish Institute of Counselling and Psychotherapy.

Gillian is a fully accredited member of the Irish Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (IACP) and works in accordance with the ethics and regulations of this governing body.

Counselling and Psychotherapeutic Approach

In working with clients, Gillian adopts an integrative therapeutic approach, using both CBT and person-centred therapy. She is mindful in applying and adapting her counselling strategy depending on the individual client, and applies her skills tailored to the client’s presenting issues. She is adept at utilising short-term, solution-focused therapy when necessary.

Gillian provides a supportive, safe space for clients to share their stories and explore the experiences, patterns and behaviours that are impacting their lives today. In establishing a collaborative and trusting therapeutic relationship, she works with clients towards instigating real change in their lives.

In therapy, clients are provided with a warm, non-judgemental environment where they can gain a better understanding of themselves and their issues. Gillian assists clients in developing healthy strategies which allow them to cope better with life’s challenges and to lead richer, more fulfilling lives.

Counselling Experience and Areas of Interest

Gillian has experience working with a wide age group from teens to those in the later stages of life. Issues covered include anxiety, depression, panic, trauma, self-esteem issues, body image issues, relationship difficulties, codependency, bullying, self-harm, grief and loss.

She has much experience working with clients with eating disorders, including binge-eating disorder. She has also worked extensively with individuals who are in recovery from drug and alcohol use, and their families.

Throughout her career, Gillian has worked in a variety of therapeutic settings, from volunteering in low-cost counselling centres to working in community services dedicated to addiction recovery. She has worked with clients on EAP programmes and has also established her own private practice. Since the onset of the pandemic, she has expanded her practice to facilitate sessions online and by telephone.

Gillian’s fee is €80 per session
