Psychotherapy Training and Accreditation

Ger (she/ her) holds a BSc (Hons) Degree in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy, along with a Higher Diploma in Humanistic & Integrative Psychotherapy. Her post-graduate training includes completing a ‘Professional Certificate in CBT’; a ‘Professional Certificate in Counselling & Psychotherapy for Individuals with Intellectual Disabilities’ and ‘Certification in the Therapeutic use of Mindfulness’.

Ger has qualifications in providing ‘Therapeutic Support for Individuals with ASD’ and has completed training in ‘Advanced Schema Therapy’ with the Schema Therapy Institute in London.  In addition, she has completed training in ‘Brief, Solution-focused Therapy’; ‘Choice Theory’ and holds ‘Advanced Certification in Anxiety Management’.

Ger has delivered psycho-educational training and workshops in multiple areas, including ‘Understanding Autism’; ‘Self-care for Carers’; ‘Supporting Individuals with Intellectual Disabilities & Complex Needs’ and ‘Provision of End -of-Life Care’.

Ger is a fully accredited member of the Irish Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (IACP, M7188) and is committed to abiding by their code of ethics and best practise model.

Counselling and Psychotherapeutic Approach

Ger’s approach to therapy is client led and adapts to suit individual needs and situations. Ger uses a variety of counselling modalities including Person-centred Therapy, Psychoanalysis, CBT, Transactional Analysis, Gestalt Therapy and Creative Methods. She strives to provide a non-judgemental, open and confidential space to allow people to safely explore and develop their true selves. Ger is respectful of the uniqueness and equality of all people, regardless of gender, pronouns, neuro-type, sexuality, physical presentation, nationality or cultural identification.

Ger is passionate about supporting individuals with achieving positive mental health and believes that therapy and personal development is the greatest gift we can give to ourselves. Ger believes in the power of creative expression and strives to empower clients in all areas of their lives.

Counselling Experience and Areas of Interest

Ger has over 15 years experience as a Psychotherapist. She has a particularly strong background of working with neuro-diverse adults in a variety of settings and has extensive experience working with Autistic adults (formerly termed Autism Spectrum Disorder levels 1, 2 and 3 & Asperger’s Syndrome). Ger has worked with adults with a range of intellectual disabilities and complex mental health needs. She has worked with individuals living in residential care and supported people in their unique journeys towards fulfilling their potential and specific goals for life and independence. Ger has also provided therapeutic support to family members with exploring the diagnosis or need for residential care of a loved one.

Ger has vast experience of working with people with PTSD and complex PTSD, as well as supporting individuals with gender exploration, anxiety, depression, bereavement, anger management, burn-out prevention and self-care for those in the caring professions. Ger has also supported individuals and their families who present with extensive challenging behaviour and complex trauma needs.

Ger’s experience includes seeing clients on a face-to-face basis, along with providing online and telephone therapy. She is committed to ongoing training and development. She is currently undertaking further qualifications focusing on the latest research regarding support for Autistic adults. Ger also has a great interest in the needs of the community of individuals exploring gender and gender dysphoria.
