Counselling Experience and Areas of Interest
Aoife works with adults aged 18 and over and supports people experiencing a wide range of concerns, including anxiety, stress, low mood, stress, burnout, trauma, emotional overwhelm, low self-esteem, relationship difficulties, life transitions, and concerns related to physical health and wellbeing.
Aoife has a particular interest in working with anxiety, stress, chronic health conditions, women’s health and hormonal experiences, as well as providing neurodiversity-affirming support to autistic and ADHD adults. She also has a broader interest in the mind–body connection, and in how psychological experiences can affect the body and nervous system.
Counselling and Psychotherapeutic Approach
Aoife takes an integrative and collaborative approach to therapy, drawing primarily from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), attachment-informed approaches and body-based practices, adapting her approach to each client’s individual experiences and goals.
Aoife supports clients to develop a more compassionate understanding of themselves, while also working towards changes that feel meaningful to them. Her work can involve exploring patterns in thoughts, emotions and behaviour, understanding how past experiences may shape current responses, and developing ways of responding differently when familiar patterns arise. Where helpful, therapy may also include gentle body-based awareness of stress responses and the ways emotions may be experienced physically.
Aoife places particular importance on the therapeutic relationship and aims to create a warm and supportive space where clients can explore their experiences at their own pace. She supports clients to develop a deeper understanding of themselves and to move towards ways of living that feel more grounded and connected to what matters to them.
Psychology Training and Accreditation
Aoife is a trained Clinical Psychologist, and received her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from University College Dublin. Aoife is a Chartered Clinical Psychologist with the Psychological Society of Ireland (PSI). As part of this, she engages in continuous professional development and supervision.
Aoife has extensive professional experience in the area of neurodevelopment, including autism and ADHD. This informs her neurodiversity-affirming approach to therapy and her understanding of the different ways people may experience communication, relationships, environments, emotions and everyday demands.
