Counselling Experience and Areas of Interest
Tony works with adults experiencing a range of difficulties including anxiety, low mood, and stress. He has a particular interest in working with individuals who may be functioning well in their day-to-day lives, but internally feel overwhelmed, mentally exhausted, or caught in patterns such as overthinking or difficulty switching off.
Tony's experience includes working with:
- Anxiety and stress
- Depression
- Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
- Emotional dysregulation
- Self-esteem and self-criticism
- Relationship difficulties
Some clients come to therapy with a clear difficulty, while others feel things are more complex or harder to put into words. Therapy offers a space to better understand these experiences and move towards meaningful and sustainable change.
Counselling and Psychotherapeutic Approach
Tony's approach is grounded in CBT and focuses on understanding what may be maintaining current difficulties, rather than only addressing symptoms. Together we develop a shared understanding of patterns in thinking, emotional responses, and behaviour, and work towards practical, meaningful change.
Tony takes a collaborative and tailored approach, recognising that each person’s experience is different. Where helpful, he integrates elements of DBT and compassion-focused approaches, particularly in supporting emotional regulation, self-criticism, and more complex or long-standing difficulties.
Tony aims to provide a structured, supportive, and non-judgemental space where clients feel understood, while also working towards lasting change.
Psychotherapy Training and Accreditation
Tony has been working in the field of psychological support and intervention since 1996 across both NHS and independent settings. He holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling and Groupwork (CBT approach) and has worked as a High Intensity CBT Therapist delivering evidence-based interventions.
Tony's early career included working within specialist services such as The Bethlem & Maudsley Hospital, supporting individuals with complex and long-standing psychological difficulties. He has also worked across addiction services, eating disorder services, and psychiatric rehabilitation.
Tony is trained in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), and he is a member of the British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP).
