Counselling Experience and Areas of Interest
Ruth is a specialist couples’ psychosexual therapist who works with individuals and couples seeking to develop healthier, more satisfying relationships and a greater sense of wellbeing in their intimate lives. Many of the people Ruth work with feel stuck in repeating patterns in their relationships — recurring arguments, emotional distance, difficulties with intimacy, or sexual concerns that are affecting their confidence and connection with a partner. Therapy offers a space to slow down these patterns, understand the emotional dynamics that may be driving them, and develop more constructive ways of communicating and relating. Ruth has experience supporting couples who experience frequent conflict or anger in their relationship but want to understand one another better and create a more secure and supportive connection. She also works with individuals and couples experiencing sexual and intimacy difficulties, including differences in desire, sexual dysfunctions, and compulsive sexual behaviours such as pornography or sex addiction. Her approach is compassionate and non‑judgemental, helping clients explore these experiences in ways that reduce shame and support greater understanding and choice. A particular area of interest for Ruth is women’s sexual wellbeing, especially concerning desire and libido. She recognises that these experiences can have a significant impact on confidence, identity, and relationship satisfaction, and she offers a thoughtful and supportive space where these concerns can be explored openly and positively. Ruth works with people from a wide range of backgrounds, identities, and relationship structures. She has experience working with gender, sexual and relational diversity (GSRD), including clients in consensually non‑monogamous relationships. She aims to provide a respectful, inclusive, and non-judgmental environment where diversity and difference are welcomed. She also has a particular interest in how ADHD can influence relationships, emotional regulation, communication, and intimacy. Therapy can help clients understand patterns that may feel difficult to shift — such as impulsivity, shame or compulsive behaviours around sex and relationships — and develop new ways of responding to these challenges. Ruth works collaboratively and proactively with her clients. While therapy provides a reflective space to understand emotional and relational patterns, she also supports clients in making practical and meaningful changes that move them towards the kind of relationships and lives they want. Her work is strongly informed by attachment theory, recognising how early relational experiences shape the ways we connect with others, manage conflict, and experience intimacy. Developing a deeper awareness of these patterns can help people build more secure and fulfilling relationships.Counselling and Psychotherapeutic Approach
Ruth’s therapeutic approach is integrative and relational. Her work is particularly informed by Relational Transactional Analysis and attachment theory; while also drawing on psychodynamic thinking, systemic perspectives and elements of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) were helpful. She places strong emphasis on the therapeutic relationship as a safe and supportive environment in which clients can explore difficult experiences with curiosity, compassion, and honesty. Ruth’s style is warm, respectful, and non-judgmental. At the same time, she works actively and collaboratively with clients to help them develop insight, strengthen emotional awareness, and make meaningful changes in their relationships and lives.Special Interests
