Counselling Experience and Areas of Interest

Owen has almost a decade of experience and training working with a wide range of issues of clients. He has experience working with anger, anxiety, bereavement, depression, eating disorders, identity problems, loss, relationships, personal development, self-esteem / confidence, education and work related issues. Whilst he works with clients of all ages and genders, Owen takes particular interest in Men’s Issues and is especially concerned with male eating disorders, body image issues, and relational abuse.

Counselling and Psychotherapeutic Approach

It is Owen’s belief that the therapeutic relationship is the most important component of counselling. Using an integrative approach of Humanistic, Existential, and Choice Theory, Owen’s style of counselling is holistic. He takes the whole person into account - emotional, physical, spiritual, psychological, and environmental. Owen sees his role as a therapist as one to facilitate exploration, reflection and introspection, human connection, and to provide perspective and solicited advise from a psycho-educational angle. Owen’s practice provides a safe environment in which a client can explore their thoughts and feelings free of judgement. Owen is passionate in the proverb “a problem shared is a problem halved” and believes through identifying patterns in our thoughts, behaviours and relationships, we can empower ourselves with the perspective needed to heal and change.

Psychotherapy Training and Accreditation

Owen holds an Honour’s Degree in Counselling and Psychotherapy. He is an accredited member of the Irish Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (IACP) and he abides by their code of ethics. Owen is committed to on-going training and professional development, regularly participating in training workshops, seminars, and clinical supervision.
