Counselling and Psychotherapeutic Approach
Matthew is an integrative psychotherapist, meaning that he will use elements from different kinds of therapeutic approaches (such as humanistic therapy, psychodynamic and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) so that your therapy is tailored to you and your particular circumstances. Matthew also values the use of more creative approaches like art therapy exercises, dream analysis, roleplays to get to a better understanding of the issue the client is facing.
Often, therapy can involve bringing curiosity to the clients past and current patterns in order to understand and develop insight into their way of being, coping and how they relate to the world. However, therapy is not just about problems, it can also be about questions, the questions you have about yourself, who you are and how you view yourself.
Matthew provides a warm and compassionate space to do this, and provides both short and long-term psychotherapy.

Matthew has worked for several not-for-profit organisations in the areas of frontline homeless, mental health and addiction services. Matthew has worked as a psychotherapist in a community counselling service and has worked with a diverse range of clients from all walks of life and believes therapy can be for anybody who has the courage and bravery to seek support, understand themselves better and work on their mental health. Areas of special interest include but are not limited to anxiety, depression, addiction, life transitions, relationship issues, lack of direction and purpose in life, spirituality, self care and self compassion.
