Biography

John Igoe is a fully qualified psychotherapist accredited with the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP). He completed his MA in Transpersonal Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy at the Centre for Counselling and Psychotherapy Education (CCPE) in London. His MA research explored male Irish drinking culture, examining themes of masculinity, addiction, Irish identity, and the experience of adult children of alcoholics. John’s training integrates humanistic, psychodynamic, existential, and transpersonal perspectives, providing a flexible and depth-oriented approach to psychotherapy.

Counselling Experience and Areas of Interest

John has worked with adults in both private practice and community settings, supporting clients through a wide range of issues, including anxiety, depression, trauma, and loss. He has worked at One in Four, supporting adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse and trauma, and at ICAP, where he works with survivors of institutional abuse. He also has experience in an acute psychiatric ward, supporting patients with chronic mental health conditions.

John has a particular interest in the impact of family dysfunction, addiction within the family system, and the long-term effects of childhood neglect and abuse. His work is also informed by his experience facilitating men’s group work and his research into Irish masculinity and drinking culture. He has a keen interest in working with dreams and in exploring existential questions around meaning, isolation, and death. His work is grounded in compassion, curiosity, and respect for each individual’s unique process.
