Biography

Dermot has a particular interest in neurodiversity and trauma informed care. Although not an exhaustive list, some of the areas he works with include, depression, anxiety, stress management, loss, self-esteem, personal development, relationships, family issues, identity and sexuality issues. His experience extends to working with a diverse range of clients and groups from all backgrounds.

Dermot tailors his approach to person centred and humanistic, with an integrative style which incorporates Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT). He believes that an holistic approach is necessary to best meet the needs of the client and help build and nurture a therapeutic space for them to explore their issues and build resilience to the challenges of life. In his work, Dermot uses his empathic and non-judgemental stance, along with his natural desire for supporting others.

Dermot also works with Mental Health Ireland, as a Recovery Education Facilitator where he has extensive experience in group facilitation and developing and delivering workshops and modules on topics around mental health and recovery such as trauma, addiction, mindfulness, emotional regulation, self-care and identifying personal goals and values.

Dermot is an accredited member (M16820) with the Irish Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (IACP).
