Derek is a qualified Counsellor and Psychotherapist who has been working in a range of organisations and in private practice since 2013. He supports adults facing a wide variety of emotional, psychological, and life-related challenges. These include low self-esteem, anxiety, depression, panic attacks, stress, relationship difficulties, workplace issues, and personal development. He also has experience supporting individuals dealing with bereavement and loss, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), ADHD, and the lasting impact of childhood trauma in adulthood. Many people come to therapy with a sense that something isn’t quite right, even if they can’t fully put it into words. Derek offers a space where those feelings can be explored safely and at your own pace. Derek has extensive experience working with people who are caring for family members with dementia, long-term illness, or children with additional or special needs. He understands the emotional and practical demands these roles can bring. At the heart of Derek’s approach is the belief that developing greater self-awareness and understanding can lead to meaningful growth. Therapy can help uncover inner strengths, build resilience, and support you in moving toward a more fulfilling and authentic life. He aims to create a calm, compassionate environment where you feel heard, supported, and empowered. As a parent himself, Derek appreciates the complexities and pressures of family life. This lived experience informs his particular interest in supporting parents and families of children with special needs, helping them navigate challenges while also recognising their resilience and capacity for growth.Counselling and Psychotherapeutic Approach
Derek is an integrative therapist with particular focus on Humanistic and Person Centred approaches to Therapy while also including Psychodynamic, CBT, Choice / Reality Therapy and Mindfulness. Derek’s approach to therapy is based in the belief that each individual has within them the potential for healthy development and growth, where each of us is the expert in our own lives. Therefore his approach is as flexible as possible in responding to his clients' needs. The client is always at the center of the process. Through a collaborative, open and honest relationship in therapy, the client has the opportunity for personal growth and positive change.Psychotherapy Training and Accreditation
Derek holds a number of qualifications including a BA in Psychology; National University of Ireland, Galway and Diploma in Integrative Counselling & Psychotherapy; PCI College Derek is a fully accredited member of The Irish Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (IACP) and as such, strictly adheres to their Professional Code of Ethics and Practice. He continually updates his skills through courses, workshops and regular supervision.Derek’s fee is €55 per session
