Biography

Having trained as a Social Care Worker initially, Conor has over 10 years’ experience in community services. He works with clients from diverse backgrounds, including teenagers, adults, couples and families.

Conor has experience of providing therapy to families around bereavement, separation, addiction issues in the family home, and the impact of family members falling out. He has also worked with individuals to provide support around diagnoses of depression and anxiety, sexuality, bullying, workplace issues and loss.

Conor takes a systemic approach to his work, focussing on the relationships that we have with others. These relationships can occur in many different contexts such as at home, work, or school. Systemic therapy is often used to work with family groups and couples, as well as with individuals or non-familial groups of people who are interconnected.

Conor is accredited with the Family Therapy Association of Ireland (FTAI) and the Irish Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (IACP) and he abides by their codes of ethics.

Conor works with clients from diverse backgrounds and of all ages and has over 10 years’ experience in community services. In these settings he has supported individuals and families experiencing issues such as homelessness, addiction, bereavement, and mental health difficulties. Conor has extensive experience in working with teenagers. He is curious about how we can best support teenagers during these often-difficult times. Conor also has experience of providing therapy to families around bereavement, separation, addiction issues in the family home, and the impact family members falling out. He has also worked with individuals to provide support around diagnoses of depression and anxiety, sexuality, bullying, workplace issues and loss.

Counselling and Psychotherapeutic Approach

Conor takes a systemic approach to his work. Systemic therapists believe that we are interconnected to those around us. Therefore, this approach focuses on the relationships that we have with others. These relationships can occur in many different contexts such as at home, work, or school. Systemic therapy is often used to work with family groups and couples. However, it is also suitable for individuals as well as non-familial groups of people who are interconnected. Conor invites clients to explore issues in a safe, collaborative, and non-judgemental way. He seeks to magnify the resourcefulness and skills that already exist within clients so that they can better overcome problems that they are experiencing in their lives. He does not seek to attribute blame or find out who is at fault, rather he looks to walk alongside clients as they discover their own unique solutions to problems. Conor believes that Systemic Psychotherapy is a powerful resource and seeks to share this with clients.

Psychotherapy Training and Accreditation

Conor initially trained as a Social Care Worker and holds a BA in Social Care from DIT. He then went on to complete a MSc in Systemic Psychotherapy from UCD where he graduated with an honours degree. Conor is accredited with the Family Therapy Association of Ireland (FTAI) and the Irish Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (IACP) and he abides by their codes of ethics. He is committed to on-going training and professional development, regularly participates in training workshops and seminars, and attends regular supervision.
