Counselling Experience and Areas of Interest

Aisling has a wide breadth of experience working with children and parents in areas such as, but not limited to: - Anxiety - Bereavement - Bullying - School refusal - Emotional difficulties - Attachment issues - ADHD - Low self-esteem - Parental separation - Parental imprisonment - Absent parent(s) - Autism - Oppositional Defiant Disorder and many more difficulties that parents and children face. Please feel free to reach out to Aisling to see if she is a good fit for your child. Structure of Child Play Therapy

• Initial Parent Intake Session (up to 1 hour)
• Child begins play therapy (40-minute sessions)
• Parent review meeting after 8-10 play therapy sessions (40-minute session)
• A closing parent consultation session.

Counselling and Psychotherapeutic Approach

Aisling works from a humanistic perspective. She uses a mostly non-directive, ‘child centered’ developmentally appropriate approach, towards children. This allows children to develop self-confidence in themselves and in their choices. Children can express their thoughts, feelings, and experiences in a safe, supportive environment. Her methods are integrative, meaning she uses elements of different therapeutic approaches to tailor to children’s needs, using psychological theories and counselling practices while using ‘play’ as a tool for assessment, change and healing. Children can communicate how they are feeling in a symbolic way for them to process emotions and resolve any conflicts they may be feeling. When working with older children, Aisling uses a more directive approach that helps to understand what might be going on for them on a deeper level. Aisling believes that the therapeutic relationship between the client and the therapist is the most important tool in the ‘play room.’ The child overtime develops trust in Aisling and in return feels more comfortable to let Aisling understand their inner world/conflicts either through symbols, play or talking. Aisling offers a gentle, understanding, empathetic and non-judgmental approach with children.

Psychotherapy Training and Accreditation

Aisling is a qualified Play Therapist, and has extensive experience working with children for 14 years. Aisling, from a young age, had a huge interest in working with children of all ages and has continued to expand her passion and interest in child development. On a personal level, Aisling is extremely approachable, empathetic and loves working with children. Aisling has experience working with primary aged children both in Australia & Ireland. Aisling is extremely qualified in the area of wellness for children. Aisling qualified as a Play Therapist with first class honours (NUIG). She is extremely passionate about Play Therapy and its effectiveness in helping children to navigate their emotional wellbeing. Aisling also holds a Degree in Psychology and has further training as a Special Needs Assistant (SNA), a Mindfulness teacher for children as well as Reiki for children. Aisling therefore approaches her work from a holistic point of view and incorporates many aspects of her training into her work with children. Accreditations & Training
