Biography

Maureen’s areas of interest include anxiety, family difficulties, autism, abortion, workplace issues, self-care, trauma, grief and loss, stress, sexuality, self-esteem, and depression.

She has over 10 years’ experience working with adults with ASD, and intellectual and physical disabilities.

Prior to becoming a therapist, Maureen worked in Dublin Simon homeless services, primarily in emergency accommodation where addiction to drugs and alcohol were the main issues people presented with. She has over 10 years’ experience working with adults with ASD, and intellectual and physical disabilities.  She advocated on their behalf in relation to human rights, education, training, citizen rights and access to services within their own community.

Maureen has completed a master’s thesis exploring the lived experience of parents with children with ASD in relation to accessing psychotherapy. She has also completed research evaluating education and training in the traveller community and the barriers involved.

Maureen holds an MA in Humanistic and Integrative Psychotherapy from Carlow IT, and an Advanced Diploma in Psychotherapy from the Tivoli Institute.  She also holds a degree in Social Science from University College Dublin.

Maureen is a fully accredited member of IACP (Irish Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy) and abides by their code of ethics.
