Psychotherapy Training and Accreditation

Jackie is a Humanistic and Integrative therapist who holds an Honour’s Degree in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy from Cork Institute of Technology (Now MTU). Jackie’s training includes theoretical perspectives from Gestalt, Person Centred, Existential, Attachment, Trauma Therapy, Somatic Experiencing, Polyvagal, Mindfulness and elements of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). She has also achieved certificates in; Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT, Marsha Linehan), Adolescent Psychotherapy (Bronagh Starrs) and Mindfulness. Jackie also holds Certificates in Positive Psychology, Mindfulness and Transgender Equality (TENI). She is also trained in Suicide Prevention, Safe Talk and Assist and has completed the SAOR, Brief Intervention for Alcohol and Substance Misuse. She has recently completed Certificates in Energy Therapy Technique and The Inner Camino, Pathway to Inner Peace. Jackie is a fully accredited member of the Irish Institute of Counselling and Psychotherapy (IACP) and abides by their Code of Ethics. Jackie also attends regular supervision and engages in continual professional development courses to further deepen her own process and deepen her knowledge around her profession.

Counselling and Psychotherapeutic Approach

Jackie’s approach to therapy is an Integrative Humanistic approach drawing from many different modalities, including mindfulness, breath-work and body work. Jackie believes the therapeutic relationship is central to the work, influencing the outcome of therapy and is the catalyst for change for the client. Genuine collaboration between the therapist and the client is encouraged. Jackie sees every client, every session as unique and is creative and dynamic in integrating her learning and life experience while sitting with the client as their story unfolds, offering support, a safe space to unpack, process and heal. She works to understand and explore the client’s lived experience. One of her aims through therapy is to make the client’s values and beliefs conscious so that this exploration is facilitated. Thus, the possible maladaptive cognitions, emotions and behaviours can be unearthed and processed. Jackie believes that purpose and meaning play a significant part in our lives. She stresses the importance of personal choice and responsibility and celebrates the capacity of each individual to create their own meaning in life. Jackie also uses systems based approaches such as Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), based on the concept that one’s thoughts, feelings, physical sensations and actions are interconnected, and that negative thoughts and feelings can trap you in a negative cycle.

Counselling Experience and Areas of Interest.

Jackie is an Accredited Counsellor and Psychotherapist. She works in Private Practice, Organisations, on Employee Assistance Programmes and in a Secondary School. Jackie has worked in a  Secondary Care Community Mental Health facility. She has worked therapeutically with adults from all life stages and adolescents, 16+, where she has acquired a wealth of experience in providing therapy for wide ranging issues. Jackie’s background is in Sales and Marketing and has a good understanding of workplace stress and work life balance. She was a Volunteer Facilitator with AWARE (Charity supporting those challenged with depression, anxiety and bi-polar disorder) for 5 years, facilitating, both an adult and a youth group (18/28year olds). Jackie's fee is €70 per session
