Psychotherapy Training and Accreditation
Evelyn has been working in the mental health field for the last decade. She holds a BA degree in Psychology from UCD, a BSc. Degree in Counselling and Psychotherapy from PCI College, and a MA degree in Counselling and Psychotherapy from ICHAS. Evelyn is a fully accredited member of the IACP (Irish Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy).
Counselling and Psychotherapeutic Approach
Evelyn endeavours to create a strong therapeutic relationship with her clients, and a space where clients feel safe to speak completely freely and without judgement. Evelyn favours a Humanistic approach, stemming from Person-Centred Therapy where the client is treated with empathy and encouraged to practice self-compassion.
Evelyn believes that integrating different therapeutic approaches can be valuable in counselling, depending on each client’s individual needs. For instance, sometimes it can be effective to incorporate elements of CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) alongside the Humanistic Approach. The aim is to find an approach that best suits each client, and that offers the most effective support.
Counselling Experience and Areas of Interest
Before completing her training, Evelyn worked as a mental health support worker in the care sector. Evelyn offered support to people with dementia and schizophrenia in a residential setting; and this experience provided the opportunity to work on the frontline with vulnerable adults and their families. Evelyn also volunteered on helplines, which allowed her the chance to support people in crisis and develop the skills to help people over the phone and online.
Since 2016, in addition to private therapeutic practice, Evelyn has worked as a counsellor with a global EAP (Employee Assistance Programme). As an EAP Counsellor, Evelyn has been able to offer Solution-Focused Counselling with clients on a short-term basis; and she has worked with clients from different countries around the world.
During her studies, Evelyn completed her dissertations in relation to body image and eating disorders, along with the role of shame and the growth of social media in present society. Evelyn has worked with adults on a one-to-one basis, both in the short-term and in ongoing therapy. Although Evelyn has worked with adults of all ages, most of her clients tend to be individuals ranging from their early twenties to their late thirties. Often, clients seek support when they are going through pivotal changes in their lives, and Evelyn aims to empower them through any challenges they may face.
Evelyn has experience supporting clients with anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, bereavement/loss, work-related issues, stress, relationship and family issues; in addition to more in-depth exploration of the person’s sense of Self. Evelyn works with the theory that repairing our relationship with our own Self will help us better relate to others and the world around us.
