Psychotherapy Training and Accreditation
After completing a BSc Psychology, Ruth trained as a Transactional Analysis Psychotherapeutic Counsellor at the Metanoia Institute in London. She then went on to specialise in Psychosexual and Relationship Therapy, obtaining a post graduate diploma in Psychosexual and Relationship Therapy accredited by Middlesex University (London). She is also trained in the Developmental Model of Couples Therapy by the Couples Institute in California.
Ruth is a registered member of The College of Sex and Relationship Therapy (COSRT) in London and the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy.
Ruth attends regular supervision and is committed to her professional development.
Counselling and Psychotherapeutic Approach
Ruth’s model of psychotherapy is integrative and humanistic. In particular she integrates Psychodynamic, Relational Transactional Analysis, Systemic and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) approaches combined with specific psycho-sexological knowledge tailored to suit her clients’ needs and preferences.
Ruth has a passion for helping individuals and couples have healthier relationships with themselves and others. Her approach is flexible, dynamic, collaborative and proactive and she brings a warm non-judgmental attitude to get to the root of difficulties quickly and effectively. Her goal is to help her clients uncover their potential, gain confidence and lead a fulfilled, shame free life of their own making.
As a psychosexual therapist Ruth commonly works with clients struggling with
· Erectile difficulties
· Rapid ejaculation
· Delayed or impaired ejaculation
· Vaginismus
· Dyspareunia (painful sex)
· Orgasmic difficulties
· Embarrassment and anxiety in regard to sex and sexuality
· Exploring types of sexual behaviours, relationship configurations and non-heteronormative expressions
She also helps clients (and their partners) struggling with compulsive sexual behaviours and problematic use of pornography.
As a couples’ therapist Ruth helps clients with the following difficulties
· Communication problems including arguments, rows and healing
· Healing after the disclosure or discovery of infidelity
· Mismatched desire or loss of desire or needs
· Lack of intimacy
· Ending a relationship constructively and with empathy
· Difficulties with in-laws
Counselling Experience and Areas of Interest
Ruth was previously a solicitor working in both the private and public sectors for over 20 years and has extensive experience in working with clients who are struggling to balance work and home life and find meaning in their life. She has worked with personality disorders, work stress and anxiety, redundancy and with individuals and couples experiencing relationship difficulties, trauma, sexual disfunctions, difficulties with in-laws, childhood sexual abuse and porn and sex addictions. Her particular interest is in helping individuals and clients to live the most fulfilling life that they can
Ruth’s fee per session is €80 for individuals and €95 for couples
