Psychotherapy Training and Accreditation

Craig holds an MSc in Counselling Education. Since receiving his advanced degree, he has engaged in various intensive post graduate training including trauma-focused modalities that help reprocess distressing events and strengthen relationships.  This includes Brainspotting, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Integrative Body Psychotherapy, and Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy.

Craig is an accredited member of the Irish Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (IACP) and abides by their code of ethics.  He is also a certified Brainspotting Practitioner.

Counselling and Psychotherapeutic Approach

Craig recognises that seeking counselling can be a courageous thing and it’s vital that he helps create a safe and trusted experience.  He sees counselling as an opportunity to overcome an obstacle and link with other resources to generate an action plan to move past the hurt or stagnation that life inevitably presents. He believes that therapy doesn’t have to be long-term but simply a way to pick up the insight and skills to move forward with strength and clarity.

Craig believes that the healing process is best approached from a cognitive, emotional, and sensorimotor (body/mindfulness) base that will best empower clients and relieve negative symptoms.

Counselling Experience and Areas of Interest

Craig has worked in a variety of settings including schools, psychiatric hospitals, residential settings, and in private practice since 2005.  He has worked with adults individually, teens and children individually, and providing family interventions. He has provided therapeutic support to adoptive families. His primary focus has been to increase his ability to treat trauma and help his clients establish greater mechanisms to better care for themselves through mental, emotional, and physical interventions. Craig has worked with adults from various professional backgrounds that experience developmental roadblocks assisting them to move past, expansively through those barriers.

Craig has seen outstanding outcomes when using EMDR, an evidenced-based trauma therapy.  EMDR has particularly proven success in treating single incident trauma’s (like car accidents, assaults, or other disturbances). When left untreated, people are often left with increased anxiety, depression, and various maladaptive behaviours.

Craig has also used Brainspotting which is a valuable and empowering technique for clients that has some similarities with EMDR.  This tool has shown to help clients liberate themselves from stagnate and self-defeating behaviours’ that are often caused by unprocessed trauma. Brainspotting has also been proven to be excellent for performance related enhancement in athletics, the arts, or other ventures.  https://www.brainspottingireland.com
