Counselling and Psychotherapy Approach

Nuala’s approach is rooted in humanistic, person-centred therapy, which recognises the individual’s innate capacity for self-understanding, healing and growth when offered a safe and supportive therapeutic environment. She co-creates a therapeutic relationship with the client that allows them to safely explore challenges and the underlying emotional and psychological processes contributing to their distress. Nuala values authenticity, non-judgement, warmth, respect, compassion and curiosity in the therapeutic relationship.

As an integrative humanistic therapist, Nuala combines person-centred principles with trauma-informed practice. She draws from a range of psychological approaches including attachment theory, psychodynamic, existential, gestalt and emotion focused therapy. This integrative approach allows the therapy to resonate more deeply with different clients and supports meaningful transformation.

Clients are supported to create a coherent narrative of their lives, identify and transform limiting beliefs and patterns and develop the capacity to tolerate difficult emotions. This leads to greater self-awareness, self-acceptance, emotional resilience, resourcefulness and change in the client’s chosen direction.

She has been working as a psychotherapist in clinical practice for five years and previously spent fifteen years facilitating personal and professional development as a consultant and coach.
