Psychotherapy Training and Accreditation

Oisín holds a B.A. (Hons) in Counselling and Psychotherapy with ICPPD.  He is a qualified psychotherapist accredited by the IACP (M14354), and adheres diligently to their code of ethics.

Counselling and Psychotherapeutic Approach

In his therapeutic practice, Oisín adopts a Humanistic Integrative Approach, where he embraces a person-centered ethos. Drawing from various theories and modalities such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Psychodynamics, Rogerian, Gestalt, and more, he tailors his approach to suit the unique needs of each individual client.

Central to Oisín’s philosophy is a profound trust in the inherent wisdom within each person. He believes that everyone possesses the innate capacity to move forward and discover their own solutions to life’s challenges. With some facilitation, guidance and exploration, each client is motivated and encouraged to enact real psychological, emotional and behavioural change. He believes at the heart of the therapeutic journey lies the relationship between counsellor and client—a bond characterized by trust, respect, and mutual collaboration.

Oisín prioritizes creating a therapeutic environment where clients feel genuinely heard, understood, and accepted. He endeavours to foster empathy and compassion, ensuring that clients feel
empowered to explore their thoughts and emotions openly. In this space of mutual cooperation and understanding, Oisín works alongside his clients to support them on their path towards growth and self-discovery.

Counselling Experience and Areas of Interest

Oisín brings a wealth of experience and a diverse skill set to his practice, honed through his work in various counselling settings. His professional journey included a private practice, where he has provided individualized support to clients navigating a wide range of challenges. Additionally, Oisín has served as a counsellor at Athlone’s TUS University student counselling
service, offering guidance and assistance to students facing a myriad if life’s challenges. He started his professional work in a voluntary capacity with a counselling charity.

In his practice, Oisín demonstrates a remarkable ability to connect with clients and address a range of issues. While his experience spans a broad spectrum, including depression, anxiety, panic attacks, dissociation, bereavement and grief, and major life changes, Oisín’s approach is adaptable and responsive to each client’s unique needs.

His dedication to ongoing learning and professional development ensures that he stays abreast of the latest therapeutic techniques and approaches, further enhancing his capacity to support clients effectively.
