Dermot Flatley

Psychotherapy Training and Accreditation

Dermot received his Master of Arts in Humanistic and Integrative Psychotherapy (Clinical) training with the Tivoli Institute and the South East Technological University, Ireland. He is a pre-accredited member with the Irish Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (IACP) and currently working towards full accreditation. He abides by their codes of ethics which includes regular supervision and an ongoing commitment to personal and professional development.

Dermot is a passionate and adaptable therapist, and it was his own lived experiences that ignited a passion to pursue a career in psychotherapy and counselling and with that a strong desire to support and empower others.

Counselling and Psychotherapeutic Approach

Dermot tailors his approach to person centred and humanistic, with an integrative style which incorporates Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT). He believes that an holistic approach is necessary to best meet the needs of the client and help build and nurture a therapeutic space for them to explore their issues and build resilience to the challenges of life.

In his work Dermot uses his empathic and non-judgemental stance, along with his natural desire for supporting others.

Counselling Experience and Areas of Interest

Dermot has a particular interest in neurodiversity and trauma informed care. Although not an exhaustive list, some of the areas he works with include, depression, anxiety, stress management, loss, self-esteem, personal development, relationships, family issues, identity and sexuality issues. His experience extends to working with a diverse range of clients and groups from all backgrounds.

Dermot also works with Mental Health Ireland, as a Recovery Education Facilitator where he has extensive experience in group facilitation and developing and delivering workshops and modules on topics around mental health and recovery such as trauma, addiction, mindfulness, emotional regulation, self-care and identifying personal goals and values. Through this role, Dermot is also a trained Wellness Recovery Action Plan (WRAP) and Recovery Principles and Practice facilitator. He has also collaborated with local communities and universities on a number of different projects which includes delivering adult education services in the area of mental health.

He has also completed volunteer training with the Samaritans, life skills training (CBT) with Aware and training on managing stress through CBT with the Galway Technical Institute.

Dermot’s fee per session is €60 for individuals.
