Counselling and Psychotherapeutic Approach
Niamh’s therapeutic approach is one of a Humanistic, Integrative and Psychodynamic experience. Niamh works with the client to heal and rebuild confidence and self-esteem through exploration of all presenting issues, with a particular interest in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Gestalt, Attachment Theory, Mindfulness and Meditation techniques.
Gestalt therapy is an experiential form of psychotherapy that focuses on the present moment, the relationship between therapist and client, and the environmental and social contexts of a client’s life. Niamh’s work is guided by her core belief, grounded in Attachment Theory, that our past and childhood experiences impact on our present relationships and feelings.
Niamh recognises that individuals are resilient and have an ability to heal from past experiences. The psychotherapy is integrative, drawing on all psychotherapeutic modalities, to tailor the therapeutic approach to meet the client’s needs. Recognising that bereavement and loss, relationship issues, domestic violence, addiction, trauma, anxiety/stress, depression, self-esteem issues, childhood issues and others all require a holistic and individual response to each client, as we all process life experiences differently.
Counselling Experience and Areas of Interest
The journey to become a psychotherapist rarely begins on the first day of training. Niamh has been privileged to work as a Social Care Practitioner and Social Care Manager for over twenty years; working with individuals from diverse backgrounds experiencing trauma and many forms of loss and self-esteem issues.
Having managed complex multi-disciplinary Social Care teams in the Homeless sector, Niamh is passionate about equality for individuals, working with trauma, anxiety and seeing each client’s uniqueness. This experience has given Niamh an empathy and non-judgmental approach to her work and an ability to see beyond the presenting issues for deeper growth for the client. Niamh gently works with unconscious processes to support the healing process.
As a GDPR compliant therapist, Niamh values the importance of therapy as a safe, holistic, and confidential space.
If you are experiencing anxiety or feeling an emotional imbalance, psychotherapy may help you to unlock these feelings and live more fully in the moment. Niamh will warmly welcome you to the therapeutic space, to work gently with you, at your own pace and begin the process of restoring balance and growth.
