Psychotherapy Training and Accreditation
Teresa is a Chartered Counselling Psychologist, registered with the Psychological Society of Ireland, (M2125C). She holds a B.A. (Hons) in Psychology and a Masters of Science in Counselling Psychology, from Trinity College Dublin, holding chartered status with Psychological Society of Ireland (PSI), M2125C.
Teresa holds a DipHE in Addiction Studies, (Distinction) which was awarded by the Addiction Training Institute. She has completed training in ‘Practitioner Skills For Eating Disorders and Management of Obesity’ which was awarded by the National Centre of Eating Disorders, London.
Teresa has undergone extensive training in Schema Therapy with the International Society of Schema Therapy.
Counselling and Psychotherapeutic Approach
Teresa emphasises in her approach, the crucial importance of the therapeutic relationship, and endeavours to create and provide a safe, collaborative and non-judgemental environment for people. She works primarily from a Schema-focused perspective. This is an evidence-based therapy, which expands on traditional cognitive-behavioural concepts. Schema therapy blends elements from cognitive-behavioural, attachment dynamics, and psychodynamic processes into a unifying treatment approach.
Schema therapy essentially focuses on helping people to identify and work on changing self-defeating patterns of thought, emotions and behaviours developed during childhood.
Counselling Experience and Areas of Interest
Teresa has been practising as a psychologist since 2000. She has built up her experience through working in a variety of therapeutic settings that span private work, residential and within communities.
She has gained valuable experience working particularly in the areas of traumatic impact, addictive states and the spectrum of eating disordered behaviours. Teresa endeavours to help people to explore their vulnerabilities, and collaboratively formulate evidence-based strategies that support people in the journey of reclaiming of their lives.
