Psychotherapy Training and Accreditation
Steven began his psychotherapy training at the Tavistock in London with an interest in working with couples and relationships. He then went on to do an integrative counselling training and then a further post-graduate psychotherapy training via Middlesex University to specialise in sex and relationship therapy. He is currently advancing his training on a three-year programme with the Couple’s Institute in California.
Steven is a registered member of The College of Sexual and Relationship Therapists (COSRT) and is bound by their strict code of ethics and professional standards.
Counselling and Psychotherapeutic Approach
Steven is integrative in his therapeutic outlook. This means he integrates adult-attachment with gestalt, existential, psychodynamic and transactional analysis therapies.
Steven recognises that each person is unique and has a different therapeutic need and so he tailors his work to suit each individual or couple.
Steven is passionate about living a fulfilled life. He believes this is rooted in positive and satisfying relationships. Sometimes our relationships become stuck, hit an obstacle or become overwhelmed by disagreements and conflicts. There may be times when our bodies do not perform or function sexually in the way we would like them to, which can have a significant impact on our general well-being, our sexual satisfaction and ultimately our relationships.
Steven offers a safe and supportive space – for both individuals and couples – where you can be real, be heard and be free from judgement. He will work with you – for as long as you need – to resolve the difficulty that is causing you discomfort or distress. Everything you discuss is treated with the deepest respect and will always be held in the strictest confidence.
Counselling Experience and Areas of Interest
Steven works regularly with erection and ejaculation issues, vaginismus and sexual pain, sex and anxiety, attachment concerns, healing after infidelity, sexual desire and arousal, sexual behaviours and fetishes, mid-life and existential struggles, loss and grieving, feelings of guilt and shame, and difficulties with religious indoctrination and trauma.
Steven has been working as a therapist in private practice and for clinics in London, Hampshire, Surrey and the south east of England. He has worked with clients from a variety of cultures, nationalities, backgrounds and sexualities.
Before being a psychotherapist, Steven worked as an IT manager for twenty-five years and designed some of the largest internetworks in the UK&I. Before lockdown, Steven helped run karate clubs in Surrey for both adults and children. Steven loves music and reading and can solve any scrambled Rubik’s cube in about 20 seconds.
