Counselling and Psychotherapeutic Approach
In her work as a psychologist, Joanne prioritizes establishing an empathic and non-judgmental relationship with clients and creating space for them to explore their experiences and emotions. She draws on different therapy approaches depending on each person’s priorities and emotional needs – whether that be facilitating longer-term change or providing practical strategies for tackling a particular issue. In some cases, this can include CBT and behavioural exposure approaches. With other clients, Joanne uses emotion-focused therapy, which aims to transform the painful emotions underpinning many mental health and relationship difficulties. Exploration of how people’s past experiences and relationships can play into their current difficulties, also forms part of Joanne’s clinical approach in therapy.
