Psychotherapy Training and Accreditation
Declan is a dedicated and highly qualified professional. He holds a Master’s in Counselling & Psychotherapy from the Irish College of Humanities & Applied Science, Limerick, where he received training in therapeutic approaches that are grounded in both theory and practice.
He also holds an Honours Degree in Social Studies from The Open Training College, Dublin, with a specialized focus on Disability. This degree provided him with a deep understanding of the educational and social challenges faced by individuals with diverse needs and abilities, and how to develop supportive strategies that promote inclusion, access, and equality.
Declan is a fully accredited member of the Irish Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (IACP). He is committed to upholding the highest standards of ethical and professional practice, ensuring integrity, confidentiality, and client-centred care in all aspects of his work.

Declan adopts a person-centred, humanistic approach to therapy, offering compassionate support exclusively to adolescents and young adults (ages 13-25) as they navigate the challenges of today’s ever-evolving world.
As an adolescent therapist, he provides a safe, non-judgmental space where young people can openly explore their emotions, reflect on their experiences, and develop self-awareness. His approach empowers young people to build healthier coping strategies, enhance emotional regulation, and gain confidence in themselves.
Declan also works with parents, helping them better understand their child’s needs and equipping them with practical tools to foster healthy communication and emotional connection.
Counselling Experience and Areas of Interest
Since qualifying as a therapist in 2016, Declan has dedicated his professional development to specializing in adolescence, continuously expanding his knowledge and therapeutic skills to support young people through the emotional and psychological challenges of this critical stage.
Declan specializes in guiding young people through the turbulence of adolescence, addressing issues such as anxiety, depression, mood swings, low motivation, peer relationship struggles, school avoidance, academic stress, social isolation, and the impact of social media on mental health, body image, and self-esteem.
He has developed significant experience working in secondary schools, helping students navigate academic pressures, social dynamics, and emotional difficulties. Additionally, he works with the No.4 Youth Service in Galway, supporting teenagers and young adults as they manage the complexities of adolescent development and mental health concerns.
With a comprehensive background in social care, where he supported individuals with diverse needs and abilities. Declan applies this experience to offer therapeutic support to neurodivergent young people, including those who identify as autistic, ADHD, and dyslexic. He helps them navigate their unique strengths and challenges while fostering confidence, resilience, and self-acceptance.
