Psychotherapy Training and Accreditation
Aoife is a fully qualified psychotherapist. She holds a Higher Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy, a First Class Batchelor Science (Honours) degree in Counselling and Psychotherapy, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Traumatology and PTSD. She has additional training with Dublin Rape Crisis Centre in working with sexual abuse victims and a Certificate in working with dreams in therapeutic practice. Aoife is a fully accredited member of the Irish Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (IACP) and adheres to all of their guidelines which include engaging in regular supervision and continuing professional development to maintain an ethical practice and care for her clients.Counselling and Psychotherapeutic Approach
Aoife’s therapeutic training was integrative with training in multiple modalities including Humanistic, CBT, Emotionally-focused, Gestalt, Existental, Internal Family Systems, Attachment Therapy, where she finally specialised in Psychodynamic Therapy. She works from a Humanistic-Integrative perspective with the individual clients needs at the core of relationship. The relationship between therapist and client is of paramount importance for Aoife, she believes that every client is different and as such deserves an individual approach with compassion, empathy and confidentiality at it’s core. Her training allows her to adapt her approach intuitively to the different personalities and individual needs of her clients. Respecting every clients unique needs is her aim, providing a warm, empathic, non-judgemental and confidential environment to make the client feel safe, secure, respected, and heard. Psychodynamic psychotherapy is generally a more in-depth approach looking at the many layers of behaviour and how our past experiences, trauma and childhood impact how we relate in the here and now.Counselling Experience and Areas of Interest
Aoife worked in several not-for-profit organisations throughout her training before setting up her private practice in 2020. She has experience working with adults and adolescents (over 16) from a variety of different backgrounds and ages with a wide range of presenting issues such as depression, anxiety, stress, low self-esteem, trauma, PTSD, childhood sexual abuse, bereavement, grief/loss, identity issues, feminine issues, panic attacks, relationship issues, loneliness/low mood. Her areas of special interest are Trauma and PTSD and the impact on both the mind and body in clients. She also has a special interest in women’s sensuality, and expression, and is currently hosting feminine embodiment workshops incorporating aspects of dance and therapy in trauma informed somatic movement to help women connect with their sensuality in a safe space. She has a holistic approach of mind, body and soul to healing in her personal life and brings that approach into the therapy room with her, having invested extensively in her own healing journey over the years through psychotherapy and various alternative practices such as reiki, yoga, dance, breathwork and sound-healing which adds a creativity and depth to her client work.
