Therapy & Counselling in Sandyford
If you live or work in Sandyford and have been thinking about therapy, Mind and Body Works can help. We offer professional counselling and psychotherapy through three south Dublin centres in Dundrum, Donnybrook and Wicklow Street, each easily reached from the Sandyford area. For those who prefer not to travel, our online therapy service provides the same quality of care from wherever you are.
Our practice brings together 200 therapists with diverse specialisms and approaches. Whether you’re dealing with anxiety, relationship difficulties, work stress or something harder to name, you’ll find someone equipped to help.
A Confidential Space to Talk
What happens in therapy stays in therapy. This confidentiality can allow room for you to speak honestly about things you might not discuss with anyone else. These might include thoughts that you’ve been carrying alone, patterns you’ve noticed but can’t seem to shift or feelings that don’t make sense to you yet.
Mind and Body Works provides a safe and supportive environment for Sandyford clients. Your therapist isn’t there to judge you or give you advice in the way a friend might. They’re trained to listen carefully, ask questions that open things up, and help you understand yourself more clearly.
How Therapy at Mind and Body Works Unfolds
The first session is about establishing where you are and what you’re hoping for. Your therapist will ask questions about your current situation, your history and what’s brought you to therapy now. They’re also assessing whether they’re the right person to work with you. This matching process matters. Not every therapist suits every client. Our team is aware of this, and if you find that your therapist is not a good fit, we will work with you to find someone who is.
Sessions typically run for 50 minutes and happen weekly, at least initially. Some people find that structure helpful; others prefer fortnightly appointments once things stabilise. The rhythm is something you and your therapist will figure out together.
There’s no predetermined number of sessions. Some concerns respond well to focused, short-term work over two or three months. Others benefit from longer exploration. You’re not signing up for years of commitment when you book your first appointment.
What Brings Sandyford Residents to Therapy
The Sandyford business district attracts professionals from across south Dublin. Many of the people who contact us are navigating pressures that come with demanding careers.
Burnout and exhaustion. If you have been pushing through for months, maybe years, if your tank feels empty but the demands haven’t eased and sleep doesn’t restore you the way it used to, you may be experiencing burnout. Therapy can give you the chance to slow down, notice what is going on for you and how you can be better supported to enjoy your life rather than struggle through it.
Anxiety that’s become constant. While worry comes and goes for all of us, for those who experience anxiety, it is a constant feeling of distress that can have negative effects on physical health. Tension headaches, digestive issues and elevated blood pressure are linked to anxiety.
Feeling disconnected. This may apply to your partner, your friends, yourself, or all three. Going through the motions without really being present or feeling a flatness where there used to be colour could be signs that you are feeling disconnected from those around you or from yourself.
Decisions that feel impossible. Should you stay or leave? Change careers? Have the difficult conversation you’ve been avoiding? When everything feels weighted, even small choices become paralysing. Therapy is a space where you can explore your thoughts and feelings without fear of being judged.
Something from the past that won’t stay buried. When previous experiences that you thought you’d dealt with resurface, or memories, reactions and patterns that trace back to your past reveal themselves, therapy offers you the chance to work through past experiences in a safe and non-judgemental space.
Qualifications and Professional Standards
All Mind and Body Works therapists have completed full professional training, hold insurance, and are pre-accredited or accredited members of recognised bodies: the Irish Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (IACP), the Irish Association of Humanistic and Integrative Psychotherapy (IAHIP), or the Psychological Society of Ireland (PSI).
This membership provides important safeguards. It means verified qualifications, adherence to ethical codes, ongoing supervision, and accountability. When you’re trusting someone with vulnerable parts of your life, these standards matter.
Each therapist sets their own fee, which you’ll find on their individual profile. We also offer low-cost counselling for students, people who are unemployed, and those experiencing financial difficulty.
Therapeutic Approaches We Offer
Different approaches suit different people and different issues. Our therapists draw on various evidence-based methods.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) works with the connections between thoughts, feelings and behaviours. It’s particularly effective for anxiety and depression, with NICE guidelines recommending it as a first-line treatment. CBT tends to be more structured and goal-oriented than some other approaches.
Psychodynamic therapy looks at how past experiences, particularly early relationships, shape present difficulties. If you’re interested in understanding the deeper roots of your patterns rather than just managing symptoms, this approach may be a good fit for you.
Person-centred therapy offers a non-directive space where you set the agenda. The therapist provides unconditional acceptance rather than interpretations or techniques. Some people find this particularly helpful when they need to be genuinely heard.
EMDR helps process traumatic memories that continue causing distress. It’s well-researched for PTSD and increasingly used for other trauma-related difficulties.
Integrative therapy draws on multiple approaches, tailoring the work to what you need at different stages.
Online Therapy: When Location Isn’t the Issue
Perhaps your schedule makes regular in-person appointments impractical. Maybe you travel frequently for work, or have caring responsibilities. Or you simply prefer the privacy of speaking to someone without visiting a physical location.
Online therapy means you can access qualified therapists through secure video platforms, maintaining the same confidentiality as face-to-face sessions. For many concerns, online work proves equally effective.
Getting Started
You have several options for booking.
Browse therapist profiles. Visit the therapists section on our website. Each profile includes information about their background, specialisms, fees and availability. When you find someone who seems suitable, you can contact them directly.
Ask for a recommendation. If you’re unsure who would be the best fit, email enquiries@mindandbodyworks.com or phone 01 677 1021. Our team can suggest therapists based on your situation and preferences.
When making contact, it helps to include a brief description of what you’d like to work on and your general availability. This allows us to identify a list of therapists who may be suitable for you.
Your first appointment is an opportunity to discuss what’s brought you to therapy and how you might work together. The opening sessions are introductory for both of you. As you begin to feel comfortable and supported, the deeper work becomes possible.

Online Therapy FAQs
The terms overlap considerably and are often used interchangeably in Ireland. Broadly, counselling tends to describe shorter-term, focused work on recent issues, such as processing a relationship breakdown or managing panic attacks. Psychotherapy often implies deeper, longer-term exploration of patterns rooted in earlier experiences, attachment difficulties, or questions about meaning and direction. Both forms help people through difficult periods, regardless of how significant those difficulties might seem.
Our fully qualified therapists are here to lend you a helping hand along your journey to better mental health. All of our therapists in private practice have completed full professional training, are fully insured, and are accredited members of IACP, IAHIP or PSI. Please also see our Cognitive Behavioural Therapy services at CBT therapy . We also offer a low-cost counseling service to those unemployed, students or for people with financial issues. Consider what you’re hoping to work on and whether any particular approach appeals to you. Read therapist profiles to get a sense of their background and style. If you’re uncertain, contact our team for a recommendation. And remember: if your first choice doesn’t feel right after a session or two, switching to someone else is completely acceptable.
This varies enormously depending on what you’re working through and how you respond to therapy. Some people find six to eight sessions sufficient for a specific issue. Others engage in longer-term work spanning months or years. You and your therapist will review progress regularly and adjust accordingly.
Confidentiality is fundamental to therapy. What you discuss remains private, with very limited exceptions required by law, such as imminent risk of serious harm. Your therapist will explain these boundaries clearly at the outset.
Each therapist has their own cancellation policy, typically requiring 24 to 48 hours’ notice. Check with your specific therapist about their requirements.
