Psychotherapy Training and Accreditation

Michael holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy from Institute of Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy (IICP) in Dublin. He is currently engaged in post graduate training in a body-oriented therapy approach with Ireland Somatic Experiencing (ISE).

Michael has Nordic roots and is fluent in English and Finnish. He is an accredited psychotherapist with the Irish Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (IACP) and abides by their code of ethics.

Counselling and Psychotherapeutic Approach

Michael’s goal is to make the therapy space a safe one which allows his clients to explore the difficult aspects of their life experiences. Imagine it as a training ground for self-discovery, where your effort directly influences your progress. It’s like running a marathon, emphasizing the importance of persistence and resilience. Michael looks at life as more like a marathon than a sprint, highlighting the value of taking small steps for long-term well-being. What you invest in this process determines what you gain from it. Success comes from consistently taking small steps towards your goal, even when facing setbacks. Focus on the present and the next small step, as this helps improve well-being and boosts self-esteem for lasting positive change.

Michael believes it is crucial to connect with our bodies and tune into the signals they are giving us. To do this, we need to calm our busy minds and pay attention to the sensations and feelings in our bodies, treating them as a unique form of intelligence.

As a neuroscience and evolutionary biology-informed psychotherapist, Michael’s specialty lies in understanding how our brain and biology shape our thoughts, feelings, and behaviours. He uses this knowledge to help individuals navigate and overcome challenges in their lives. Michael is deeply passionate about the human experience and brings a unique blend of spirituality and science to his work. His therapy sessions are a collaborative exploration, where he blends the wisdom of spirituality with evidence-based trauma healing methods rooted in the knowledge of neuroscience.

Counselling Experience & Areas of Interest

Michael has successfully supported adults facing a diverse array of challenges, including anxiety, depression, co-dependency, spirituality, low self-esteem, relationship issues, loss and bereavement, work-related concerns, family dynamics, assertiveness, problematic anger, resilience, developmental trauma, and CPTSD (Complex post-traumatic stress disorder).

Recognizing the specialized nature of certain issues, Michael is currently undergoing additional training to deepen his understanding of how unresolved trauma impacts both the body and mind. A particular focus of Michael’s practice lies in exploring the intricacies of stress and anxiety management. While challenges are inevitable, Michael is intrigued by the innate human capacity to enhance resilience and bolster tolerance toward stress.

In therapeutic collaboration with his clients, Michael concentrates on cultivating novel approaches to stress management and building resilience, especially when life unfolds differently than anticipated. Emphasizing the importance of mindfulness, Michael believes that being present fosters attentiveness, compassion, curiosity, care, and self-awareness, contributing to the holistic well-being of individuals on their therapeutic journey.
