Psychotherapy Training & Accreditation

Karen Garvin has trained in Integrative Psychotherapy holding an Honours Degree on Psychotherapy from Cork Institute of Technology.

She is also currently enrolled in the Somatic Experiencing Training programme with Somatic Experiencing Ireland, and the Gestalt Diploma in Northern Ireland.

She has additional qualifications in Conflict Resolution and Mediation and Group Facilitation.

Karen is accredited with and regulated by the Irish Association of Counselling Practitioners (IACP).

Therapeutic Counselling Approach

Karen focuses on the current Impact of Trauma as well as the retelling of the story of what happened. In particular the Somatic Impact such as Anxiety levels and loss of connection in life. Orienting toward healing & health and finding tools to assist in important in this.

She combines Regulation Techniques and Somatic awareness into her client work. Using a Trauma informed approach and co-creating Safety & Stability in the therapeutic space is key to this approach. Gently Empowering the client to be aware of, and regulate their own responses, and learning how to navigate their environment is key to this.

Karen uses Gestalt Techniques to increase awareness and regulation for the client.

Counselling Experience and Areas of Interest

Karen has extensive experience in assisting clients find the tools that best suit them. Karen draws on Attachment & Developmental Theory, Internal Family systems Therapy, somatic experiencing & Gestalt techniques to assist the client in figuring out how their past manifests in their present daily life, and how to heal that and move forward.
