Psychotherapy Training & Accreditation

Karen Garvin is a Integrative Psychotherapist, holding an Honours Degree on Psychotherapy from Cork Institute of Technology. Having worked in financial services for many years, she then opened her own business which was a Health Store and spent the next decade studying nutrition and wellbeing. From this stemmed a curiosity and interest in the inner working lives of people.

This inspired Karen to train as a Psychotherapist and she has recently added Conflict Resolution and Mediation to her skills.

Karen is accredited with and regulated by the Irish Association of Counselling Practitioners (IACP).

Therapeutic Counselling Approach

Karen uses an Integrative approach, combining Gestalt, Internal Family systems and Somatic awareness into her client work. Using a Trauma informed approach and co-creating Safety & Stability in the therapeutic space is key to this approach.

Karen uses Somatic Awareness and Somatic Mindfulness techniques to increase awareness and regulation for the client. Research shows the best outcome for the client centres around the therapeutic relationship between client and therapist.

Counselling Experience and Areas of Interest

Karen draws on her own experience using attachment history and an awareness of Developmental Trauma to best support her clients. She works with Anxiety and Dysregulation, Developmental Trauma, Relationship Issues and Family Breakdown as well as general counselling and psychotherapy.

“Your task is not to seek for love, but merely to seek and find all the barriers within yourself that you have built against it”…Rumi.

Karen’s fee is €70 per session
