Counselling and Psychotherapeutic Approach

Caroline mainly uses CBT and Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) in individual therapy and also draws on some aspects of compassion focused therapy.  She mainly offers time limited therapy for depression and the anxiety disorders, being guided by the recommendations of the National Institute of Clinical Excellence (NICE).

Her approach is client centred and collaborative, and she believes in considering the resilience and strengths people have prior to therapy and building on these.  This is of particular importance prior to starting any trauma focused work.

Counselling Experience and Areas of Interest

Caroline has 15 years’ post-qualification experience providing psychological assessment and treatment.  Her therapeutic work has involved working with adults across the lifespan.  She also has experience (over five years) in the area of neuropsychological assessment, predominantly in aiding diagnosis of dementia and with patients who have had a brain injury or stroke.

Depression and Anxiety

In adult mental health, Caroline has predominantly used a CBT approach for treating depression, panic, OCD, social anxiety, specific phobias and emetophobia.  Caroline has also co-facilitated mindfulness groups for long term conditions and recurrent depression; and run workshops on stress management.

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder

In terms of post-traumatic stress disorder, Caroline has post-qualification training and clinical experience in all the evidence-based psychological treatments for PTSD (Narrative Exposure Therapy, Trauma-focused cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and EMDR).  Caroline has worked with those who have experienced PTSD in response to a single traumatic incident, a traumatic bereavement and those who have suffered multiple traumas.
