Psychotherapy Training & Accreditation

Clíona holds a Clinical MA in Child and Adolescence Art Psychotherapy from University College Dublin and the Mater Hospital, Dublin. She also holds a Hons Dip in Integrative and Humanistic Psychotherapy from the Tivoli Institute.  Finally, a Dip in Addiction Studies from Trinity & Maynooth.

Clíona is a fully accredited member of the Irish Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (IACP) and a member of ACAP Association of Child Art Psychotherapists. She works within their code of ethics.

Counselling & Psychotherapeutic Approach

Clíona has extensive clinical experience supporting both adolescents and adults in a therapeutic setting. Her approach is person centred through an amalgamation of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), solution focused therapy, and Integrative + Humanistic Psychotherapy.

She respects the confidential nature of the sessions and always works at the pace of her client. The relationship with her clients are key to maintaining a solid base in which to work from. She has also worked with young people, helping them find their voice through art psychotherapy.

Whilst working with young people she offers a space to unravel and explore emotions or experiences that have affected them. Making sure to respect that all situations and feelings are relevant to whomever experiences them.

Counselling Experience and Areas of Interest

Clíona has worked as a Psychotherapist in Galway City for several years. Working in NUI Galway’s Counselling & Wellbeing Service. Previous to this she spent time working within CAMH’s in Temple Street Children’s Hospital as a Child Art Psychotherapist.

Clíona has worked with clients on a wide range of mental health issues from trauma, depression, anxiety, eating disorders, suicidality, self-harm, trauma and feelings of shame and self-loathing.

Clíona has also worked within schools with young people and their families on relationships, drug and alcohol abuse and addiction.

Having spent time working in Temple Street Children’s hospital she has been able to work with a wide range of mental health issues in a clinical setting. Clíona has extensive experience in working with both adults and young people who have experienced anxiety, depression, esteem issues and relationship difficulties.

Clíona’s fee is €80 per session
