What is counselling and psychotherapy?

Both counselling and psychotherapy are forms of talk therapy that aim to relieve you of emotional difficulties. You will work with a trained professional who will listen to what you have to say about yourself. A therapy session is used as a judgement-free space for you to speak openly and honestly about how you are feeling. Your therapist will work with you to overcome any negative thoughts, beliefs, feelings and behaviours to help improve your quality of life.

Our therapists are trained to work with issues such as anxiety, depression, stress and work, family, and relationship-related issues. Your therapist will tailor their approach to suit your needs. This means that they will include different therapy styles to work with the issues that you are bringing to the sessions which allows a holistic treatment approach. It is very common to feel like you do not know what to talk about or how to start talking about your issues but this can take some time to develop. It is important to build a trusting relationship with your therapist so you feel supported enough to allow yourself to open up.

Each therapist holds an accreditation with the necessary regulated bodies such as the Irish Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (IACP), the Irish Association of Humanistic and Integrative Psychotherapy (IAHIP) and the Psychological Society of Ireland (PSI). The therapists have all completed the necessary training required to work as a psychotherapist, some have completed additional specialised training to work with specific issues.
