Psychotherapy Training and Accreditation

Elaine is a fully qualified Gestalt psychotherapist with an M.A. in Gestalt Psychotherapy (First Class Honours) from the Gestalt Institute of Ireland, validated by the South East Technological University. She is a licensed member of the Irish Association of Humanistic and Integrative Psychotherapy (IAHIP) and also a member of the International Association for the Advancement of Gestalt Therapy (IAAGT). Elaine works under IAHIP’s professional code of ethics. Alongside her private practice, she teaches on the research module of the MA in Gestalt Psychotherapy with the Gestalt Institute of Ireland. She also brings nearly 20 years’ experience from previous roles in education, the arts, media and business, in Ireland and abroad. If you’re feeling anxious, overwhelmed or struggling with life’s challenges, Elaine offers a warm and supportive space where you can explore your experiences, heal old wounds and begin to live with more freedom and choice.

Counselling and Psychotherapeutic Approach

Elaine’s work is grounded in Gestalt psychotherapy. This means she works with you in a relational, embodied and creative way, helping you explore how your thoughts, feelings and body experiences are connected. Together, you will:

• Build greater self-awareness and self-trust
• Explore your relationships with yourself and others
• Understand how family, community and environment shape who you are
• Heal past hurts so you can move towards a more fulfilling and choice-full life

Counselling and Psychotherapeutic Experience and Areas of Interest

Elaine works with adults on a wide range of issues including:

• Trauma and recovery
• Relationship difficulties
• Sexuality, gender, identity and belonging
• Eating disorders and body image concerns

She has particular expertise in perinatal mental health including:

• Fertility, pregnancy, abortion, miscarriage and birth
• Grief and loss related to reproductive experiences
• Anxiety and depression during pregnancy and the postnatal period.

She works with both women and men in these contexts. Elaine’s clinical experience includes working with ISPCC Childline, Let’s Get Talking and the University of Galway’s Student Counselling and Wellbeing Service. Elaine’s research interests are in the area of sexuality and gender, and how we adjust and shape our body and identity to belong to the groups and cultures we live in, often to the detriment of our whole health; biological (physical), psychological (mental) and social (relationships). Before working as a psychotherapist Elaine worked for nearly 20 years in development, communication and management roles in education, the arts, media and business, in Ireland and abroad. She previously studied a B.A in Mathematics and Economics and a Postgraduate Diploma in Business Studies, both with the National University of Ireland, Galway.
