Psychotherapy Training and Accreditation

Annette holds a Professional Diploma and a B.A. (Honours) Degree in Holistic Counselling and Psychotherapy from The International College for Personal and Professional Development (ICPPD).  She also completed a thesis on the therapeutic value of mindfulness in the counselling process. She continues to attend relevant workshops and courses and is committed to continuous personal and professional development to enhance the work she undertakes with her clients. Annette is an accredited member of the Irish Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (IACP) and she works within the Code of Ethics for that organisation.

Counselling and Psychotherapeutic Approach

Annette’s approach to counselling is Humanistic and Integrative.  She believes the client is the expert on themselves having travelled their unique journey in life.   With that in mind Annette draws on various counselling and psychotherapy techniques and theoretical models, such as Person-Centred, Existential, Gestalt, CBT, Psychodynamic and others, to support and empower clients in dealing with their individual concerns and difficulties, and ultimately to increase their self-awareness and resilience. Annette’s work as a Holistic Counsellor and Psychotherapist is underpinned and complemented by a mindfulness and compassion based approach which supports the creation of a strong, though gentle, collaborative therapeutic relationship with her clients, in a calm, safe and non-judgemental space.

Counselling Experience and Areas of Interest

Annette has worked as a Holistic Counsellor and Psychotherapist for a number of years supporting adults and students.  She has gained considerable experience through working with a broad range of Public and Private Sector employees, professional and non-professional, dealing with workplace and personal issues.  Her work supporting graduate and post graduate students at NUIG has encompassed both academic and personal issues. Annette’s experience also includes working with a wide spectrum of clients and client issues in a number of community organisations, namely Let’s Get Talking Galway, Chiron Community Counselling and Clann Family Resource Centre. Annette also has considerable experience  of group facilitation, including her role as a Support Group Facilitator with AWARE (supporting individuals dealing with depression, anxiety, bi-polar and other mood related conditions) and as a Facilitator on the NUIG Student Resilience Programme. Annette has worked with a wide range of issues including (but not limited to) abuse, addiction, anxiety, attachment issues, depression, employment/workplace issues, health issues, inner child, loss/bereavement, personal development, relationship issues, self esteem, sexuality, suicide ideation and trauma.

Annette’s fee is €70 per session
