Psychotherapy Training and Accreditation

Fidelma has worked as a Humanistic and Integrative Counsellor and Psychotherapist for 21 years in private practice, the public sector, and private sector.  She has also worked and trained as a Clinical Supervisor. She has full accreditation with IACP and BACP and is a member of EMDR Ireland. Fidelma has completed British Psychological Society (BPS) approved Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) Training and Mindfulness Teacher Training (level 1) with the Mindfulness Association in the UK.

Recent years have seen Fidelma working both face-to-face and online as an Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapist. She is working towards her European Practitioner Accreditation with EMDR Ireland. (EMDR is recognised by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) and the World Health Organisation (WHO) as an effective treatment for PTSD.)

She has carried out numerous additional trainings in line with her interests and what she believes is helpful to her clinical work.  This has helped her to adapt her approach to suit the clients that she meets.  This includes working with the creative arts. She has carried out CPD in art therapy and person- centred expressive arts therapy. (PCEAT)

She continues to study, attend conferences and avail of CPD to keep learning and up to date on the recent and ongoing research in counselling and psychotherapy.

Counselling and Psychotherapeutic Approach

Fidelma describes herself as a relational therapist as she believes that no matter what clinical approach she offers to her clients, the therapeutic relationship that builds between her and her clients is pivotal to the work that they do together. Her clinical approach is informed by insights from humanistic, psychodynamic and body psychotherapy.

She can support you in your understanding of your situation and the choices that may be open to you. Her approach is collaborative.  She will work with you towards what it is you would like from counselling and what the priority is for you right now.

Counselling Experience and Areas of Interest

Fidelma has led 2 counselling services in the private sector, including setting up and leading a variety of projects and managing large teams of clinicians.  In addition, Fidelma has practised as a counsellor, psychotherapist, and supervisor for 8 years in university settings in both the UK and Ireland.

Fidelma has a particular interest in supporting clients with personal development, workplace difficulties, coping with loss, managing stress, and recovering from traumatic experiences.
