Counselling and Psychotherapeutic Approach
Gerry’s training and theoretical background is in humanistic and integrative psychotherapy incorporating psychodynamic, person centred, cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), and gestalt theoretical approaches.
His approach respects and accepts the client as a whole person who has the potential to change, heal and grow. Gerry works closely with clients to create a safe, supportive and accepting environment that is both confidential and free from judgement. He believes the relationship between therapist and client is foremost and by developing a strong alliance the client can explore their difficulties and find more adaptive ways of coping and relating.
Counselling Experience and Areas of Interest
Gerry has extensive experience in supporting those dealing with a wide range of issues including depression, anxiety, abuse, relationship difficulties, lack of confidence and self-esteem. He also supports those who are finding it difficult to cope with recent life changes and when facing a personal crisis.
Gerry has a particular interest in integrating the body and mindful, compassionate awareness in order to explore the ways we organise ourselves in the world.
