Psychotherapy Training and Accreditation

Mary’s original degree was in History and Anthropology.  She then trained with The Tivoli Institute in Dun Laoghaire in counselling and psychotherapy.  Mary is committed to ongoing professional development and has recently completed a two year program in Biosynthesis Somatic and Trauma training Mary is a fully accredited psychotherapist with both the Irish Association of Humanistic and Integrative Psychotherapy (IAHIP) and the Irish Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy(IACP) and abides by their codes of ethics.

Counselling and Psychotherapeutic Approach

Mary’s training has been in humanistic and integrative psychotherapy, with a recent focus on Trauma, particularly early or developmental trauma. However, as there is no, ’one-size-fits all’ and Mary takes an eclectic approach drawing from many modalities, to tailor the therapy to the individual client. These modalities include, ACT, Attachment Theory, Biosynthesis, Gestalt, Humanistic, Integrative, Mindfulness, Person Centred, etc. Mary sees the client / therapist relationship as pivotal to future growth, with the client being ultimately the ‘expert’ on themselves. Mary places an emphasis on clients contacting their own resources, and using these to achieve emotional balance in the body and mind and in relationships. While there is much focus on bodily expression, emotions and thoughts, she also includes inner images, sexuality and spirituality. She works with the client to help them gain an understanding of their life situation including the early period before and after birth. Mary works with adults, 18+ on a one to one basis

Counselling experience and areas of interest

Mary has experience working with clients from all life stages and on a range of issues such as anxiety & depression, adoption and early childhood issues, LGBT issues, low self-esteem, and trauma held in the body.

Mary’s fee is €70 per session
