Psychotherapy Training and Accreditation
Ellen holds a BSc in Psychology and a MSc in Integrative Psychotherapy and Family Therapy from AAMFT-Accredited Family Institute at Northwestern University in Chicago, USA. She has been a part of several research teams, studying topics including stress and young people, parenting styles, intergenerational trauma, and more. Ellen has completed additional training in Trauma-Focused CBT, Infant Loss Training from the Foundation for Infant Loss Training, and a diploma in Sports Psychology.
Ellen is a fully accredited member of the Irish Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (IACP) and abides by the code of ethics.
Counselling and Psychotherapeutic Approach
Ellen takes a collaborative approach to therapy, believing that every individual has important strengths and insights to contribute to the work. Ellen uses a warm and compassionate approach to make sure to meet the client where they are, tailoring therapy to their specific needs. Her integrative style incorporates a variety of therapeutic models, particularly focusing on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) techniques. She also incorporates aspects of attachment theory, narrative therapy, and mindfulness regularly in her therapeutic work. Ellen aims to create a safe, warm, and accepting space for clients. She works with each individual to ensure that they feel comfortable to share, learn, and bring about change in their lives.
Counselling Experience and Areas of Interest
Ellen has worked with clients from diverse backgrounds in a variety of clinical settings. She has experience working with couples, families, and individuals around issues including specific phobias, BPD, self-esteem issues, body/food issues, and trauma. She has worked extensively with clients experiencing issues related to anxiety and depression, teaching CBT skills to improve functioning and reduce negative thought patterns. Ellen has also worked in academic settings to help young people improve executive functioning and gain positive coping skills.
Ellen’s areas of interest include teaching emotional regulation and distress tolerance skills, working with couples around communication issues, working with men around emotional expression and masculinity, and helping young women heal from trauma.
Ellen’s fee is €75 per session
