Dr. Andrea Pousada-Fitzpatrick is a Senior Consultant Clinical Psychologist and Neuropsychologist with over 15 years of experience in private and public mental health centres and clinics, treating a wide range of psychological and neurological conditions. She is a chartered member of the Psychological Society of Ireland (PSI).
Dr. Pousada-Fitzpatrick obtained a B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Clinical Psychology from the University of Santiago de Compostela and a PhD in Neuroscience from University Complutense of Madrid. She was a postdoctoral fellow at the departments of psychiatry and neurology of Harvard University Medical School, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.
Nowadays, she combines her clinical practice along with her academic work as university professor in psychology in American and European universities. She is also an experienced clinical researcher in the field of mental health and neuroscience focusing on cognitive biomarkers, endophenotypes and clinical aspects of bipolar disorder, psychosis, personality disorders and ADHD using techniques such as Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI), Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS), Electroencephalography (EEG), Neurofeedback and Biofeedback. She has participated in several international scientific conferences presenting the results of her research and giving lectures and talks in different institutions.
Clinical and Psychotherapeutic Approach
As a clinical psychologist and neuroscientist, Dr. Pousada-Fitzpatrick uses a holistic approach to explore the reasons underlying symptoms helping you to understand the issues that you are experiencing. Therefore, she practices from an integrative approach with a special focus on psychodynamic psychotherapy in combination with other techniques.
Her main goal is to assist you in exploring yourself, to find your strengths to enable you to overcome difficulties, developing strategies and coping skills in order to achieve your full potential and improve your quality of life.
Dr. Pousada-Fitzpatrick lived in different countries such as US, Spain, Brazil, Germany and Ireland which enables her to work from a multicultural perspective. She provides consultation in English, Spanish and Portuguese.
Experience and Areas of interest
Dr. Pousada-Fitzpatrick offers psychological, cognitive assessments and diagnosis for adolescents and adults as well as psychotherapy sessions. She has additional postgraduate training in psychosomatic medicine, children and adolescent psychopathology, brief psychotherapy and psychodynamic therapy in the U.S. and Europe.
Dr. Pousada-Fitzpatrick has been treating patients successfully for many years with areas of expertise including anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, psychosis, personality disorders, eating disorders, stress disorders, psychosomatic disorders, sleeping issues, ADHD, cognition, addictions, OCD, PTSD, relationship and self-esteem problems.
She also provides clinical supervision to therapists.
