Psychotherapy Training and Accreditation
David graduated with a BSc (Hons) in Counselling and Psychotherapy from Middlesex University. David also holds a Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy from PCI College, Ireland.
He is committed to continuing professional development and has completed training in other areas, including suicide and self-harm, domestic abuse, mindfulness, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT).
He is fully accredited to practice in Ireland with the Irish Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (IACP) and abides by their code of ethics. He also attends regular supervision as part of his ethical commitment to his work.
Counselling and Psychotherapeutic Approach
David works to empower and support clients, to explore their difficulties as deeply as possible, working towards insight, freedom, and fulfilment. He works with the conviction that the therapeutic relationship can be a profound vehicle for change when built on a foundation of mutual trust and respect.
David uses an integrated approach, which combines different therapeutic treatment modalities, depending on the needs of the person he is working with. He draws from variety of well-established and cutting-edge therapeutic orientations including: Humanistic and Existential, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and a Mindfulness-Based Approach known as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). His approach is always informed by the needs of each client.
Counselling Experience and Areas of Interest
David has several years of experience and training working with a range of issues. He is especially interested in working with depression, anxiety, suicide ideation, loss, and issues around meaning and fulfilment.
David has previously worked in helping professionals focused on young people under 25 years of age. He has a special interest in working with young people dealing with issues such as self-actualisation, low self-esteem, relationship issues, depression, and anxiety. David is also a lecturer in the area of Counselling and Psychotherapy in a third level college.
